Post Conviction Sex Offender Testing
PCSOTOhio, like most other states, runs programs that monitor the behavior of sex offenders following their conviction. During this time they will usually be subject to parole or probationary requirements that include taking regular polygraph (lie detector) tests to verify compliance with the terms of their release. These tests are called Post Conviction Sex Offender Testing (PCSOT.)
When conducting PCSOT tests, the examiner will be working to standards laid down by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) as well as those defined by the American Polygraph Association (APA.) It is also necessary for the test examiner to have been trained specifically in the procedures for administering PCSOT polygraph examinations.
Cincinnati Polygraph Associates has been certified by the American Polygraph Association to conduct sex offense examinations, including, but not limited to:
- Sexual harassment;
- Viewing child pornography;
- Sexual touching and/or molestation; and
- Sexual history disclosure.
The majority of polygraph examinations are carried out in conditions of complete confidentiality, but PCSOT interviews are an exception. In these instances, the results of the tests may be required to be shared with the therapist in charge, or a probation or parole officer.
Types of Post Conviction Sex Offender Tests
- Instant Offense − Exploring the nature and extent of the original offense and clarification of the victim. Specific details of the date, location, and alleged incident/s.
- Sexual History Disclosure − Part I – victims and victim selection − Part II – sexual compulsivity and sexual deviancy.
- Sexual Contact – contact for the purpose of sexual arousal, sexual gratification, sexual stimulation or “sexual curiosity.”
- Physical Sexual Contact – does not include non-contact behaviors such as telephone sex, cyber-sex, exposing, and voyeurism.
- Maintenance Exams – these are used to determine whether the subject has been in touch with a previous victim or potential victim.
- Monitoring Testing- can be used to confirm that the subject has not committed additional sexual offenses while under probation or parole restrictions. It may also be used as a follow-up if the subject has failed a maintenance test.
